Types of Braces
Traditional/Metal Braces
Metal braces, made of high-grade stainless steel, are the most common and durable type. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more attractive. There are also other types of metal and clear braces for those allergic to nickel.
Esthetic/Ceramic Braces
Designed for the patient who desires all the speed and efficiency that comes with standard braces but without the metal look. This is a great solution for many patients who want to show off their smile, but not their braces!
Clear Aligners
Aligners, such as Invisalign, are a terrific option for adults and teens who want straight teeth without traditional braces and wires. Clear aligners are only designed for specific types of cases, so be sure to ask us if your concerns can be adequately corrected using this treatment method.
First Visit
Your initial consultation will give you the opportunity to meet our team, learn more about orthodontics, receive a complete initial exam, and find out which treatment options will best meet your needs. Orthodontic records are necessary to determine the type of appliances to be used, the duration of treatment time, and the frequency of visits. Records consist of a Panoramic X-ray and photographs, followed by a Cephalometric X-ray and models if needed. During your initial consultation, we will:
Review your dental and medical history forms
Discuss your chief complaint/concerns
Provide a complete oral exam, with a Panoramic X-ray, to determine if treatment is necessary
Help you create a customized treatment plan
Discuss all financial information, insurance options, and payment plans
Our team will be glad to answer any questions you may have, and we will provide all of the information that you need to determine which treatment is right for you. Please contact our practice to schedule your first consultation.
Monthly Visits
Visiting the orthodontist on average every 4-6 weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment. Regular checkups last between 20-40 minutes. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are scheduled around your busy schedule, so that you will spend less time in the dental chair and more time enjoying the things you love to do.
“Braces-Off” Appointment/Retention
When active treatment is finished, we comfortably remove the braces, clean off glue left behind, and polish your new smile. Then the doctors will discuss the appropriate retainer to keep your teeth straight. It is a good idea to schedule an appointment with your general dentist for a check-up and cleaning once braces are removed. The retainers are typically worn full time for 3-6 months after treatment, and then night-time only wear is recommended. Retention is for life, so if your retainers become lost, broken, or no longer fit, we’ll be happy to see you at any time after the braces are removed to get you back on track.
